\\ YHN // is a Congolese-American artist working across mixed medias such as painting, photography, and wearable art.
Her multidisciplinary practice explores memory, inheritance, transformation, and the emergent unfolding of (un)making.
She draws from from the past to (un)make dreams, histories, and ideas in real time. She uses bold colors, contrasting gestures, and texture as a language through which memory and lived experience shift, overlap and abstract.
The work is grounded in process. She practices painting and photography as act of presence. She uses presence and flow as a way of following the next idea, gesture, or texture through color and form. The outcome is never determined in advance.
Each piece carries forward something unexpected. It results in a dialogue between what has been inherited and what is being created in the now.
